Well, I wasn’t planning on posting this soon but I just couldn’t let our esteemed President’s latest dereliction go by without at least a brief comment.  When President Obama first tried to skirt this Keystone XL pipeline decision two months ago, we pointed out that this politics-first cynicism fit into a well-documented – but rarely reported on, surprise surprise – pattern.

A pattern that reared its ugly head again today when Obama came upon a creative new way to kick the can down the road.  In rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline, he added the caveat that TransCanada can reapply provided they develop an alternate route.  At this point, he’s split this particular baby so many times that it’s all but unrecognizable.  Rather than, oh I don’t know, making a decision, justifying it, and standing by it, this Administration continues on their preferred course of premeditated inaction.

Look for them to tout their environmental bona fides when speaking to their liberal base, while pointing out that they actually do support the pipeline and the jobs that it would bring – just along a slightly different path and at a time of their choosing - to, well, just about everyone else …

Update – January 19th – When even the Washington Post Editorial Board notes that the “Administration has again punted the final decision until after the election” and that President Obama should have the “courage” to make the right decision, you know you’ve screwed the pooch.  But ‘courage’?!?  How about just acting in the nation’s best interests?  Isn’t that in the Inaugural Pledge or something …
