Just to be clear, the line above emanates not from Mr. Limbaugh but from one of our favorite Canadian exports.  Well, besides whiskey and Molson’s.  Although after what America’s own brave and fearless Chief Executive pulled this week, I’m sure El Rushbo would echo the sentiment.

That’s because the Administration chose this week to once again delay a decision – conveniently until after the election – on whether to approve a cross-country pipeline from Canada to Texas.  After all, it’s only been deliberating the matter for three years.  But when any decision might mean alienating a key constituency, Team Obama can be reliably counted upon to put politics over policy.  A Profile in Courage this is not.

Even Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who had earlier called the pipeline decision a “complete no-brainer”, was dumbfounded.  Not about Obama’s empty headedness – the leader of Canada’s Conservative Party likely suspected this.  But that Obama’s backbone was apparently as deficient as his grey matter.

For those of us here in the lower 57, this was hardly a surprise.  This was a guy that as an Illinois State Senator voted “present” nearly 130 times.  And this in a body where they’re debating things like leash laws and who gets to marshal the Kiwanis Parade.  But old habits die hard so today we have a President who punts more often than this year’s Colts.

To add insult to injury, it was left to Kerri-Ann Jones of the State Department to assure us that “This is not a political decision.”  Putting aside why we should be listening to energy policy edicts from someone named Kerri-Ann – what’s next, Bambi-Jo on DoD artillery strategy – the Administration’s level of disdain and doublespeak on this is a wonder to behold.  Time to break out the Canadian Club …
